In the world of rock music, there’s a captivating tale featuring Wolfgang Van Halen, formerly of VAN HALEN and now fronting MAMMOTH WVH.

He recently appeared on BBC’s “The Rock Show With Johnnie Walker” as the guest in the “Rock God” segment. In this segment, Wolfgang revealed that his ultimate musical inspiration is none other than the legendary Dave Grohl.

He admires Grohl’s songwriting and musical prowess, especially how he transitioned from NIRVANA to create the successful FOO FIGHTERS, which resonates with Wolfgang’s own journey.

Wolfgang’s fascination with Grohl began with FOO FIGHTERS‘ album “In Your Honor,” specifically the song “Best Of You.”

He was impressed by Grohl’s ability to elevate every aspect of his music. After getting to know Grohl personally, Wolfgang’s admiration only grew stronger.

In a 2021 interview with Bass Player magazine, Wolfgang spoke about Grohl’s influence on his music.

He was inspired by how Dave Grohl played all instruments on the FOO FIGHTERS’ debut album and wanted to follow a similar path with MAMMOTH WVH, even though he sees it as more of a band than a solo project.

Wolfgang had a memorable collaboration with Grohl when they performed VAN HALEN songs together at Taylor Hawkins’ tribute concerts. Wolfgang played alongside Grohl, paying tribute to his late father, Eddie Van Halen.

MAMMOTH WVH’s second album, “II,” was released on August 4, produced by Michael “Elvis” Baskette at the iconic 5150 studio.

Wolfgang’s debut album, “Mammoth WVH,” received positive reviews, reaching the top of Billboard’s Top Hard Rock Albums and Top Rock Albums charts.

The first single, “Distance,” a touching tribute to his father, became a hit and topped the charts as well. All proceeds from “Distance” were donated to Mr. Holland’s Opus.

The name “MAMMOTH WVH” holds sentimental value, as it pays homage to Eddie and Alex Van Halen’s band, which was originally called MAMMOTH when David Lee Roth joined in 1974.

MAMMOTH WVH made its television debut on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in February 2021, performing “Distance” and an exclusive acoustic arrangement on “Today.”

Wolfgang Van Halen continues to carry the legacy of his father while forging his own path in the music industry, inspired by the greatness of Dave Grohl and his journey from NIRVANA to FOO FIGHTERS.
