“The Piper’s Call,” the lead single from David Gilmour‘s upcoming album Luck and Strange, has been released.
Eight new tracks, including “The Piper’s Call,” were written by Gilmour for the album. Polly Samson, his wife, wrote the lyrics. Charlie Andrew produced the record, which was recorded with the help of several musicians: Rob Gentry and Roger Eno on keyboards; Guy Pratt and Tom Herbert on bass; Adam Betts, Steve Gadd, and Steve DiStanislao on drums; and Will Gardner on string and choral arrangements.
The album was “written from the point of view of being older; mortality is the constant,” according to Samson, while Gilmour sings of “the promise of eternal youth” in the opening track. The song also included a line about “steer[ing] clear of the snakes” and an excellent guitar solo by the ex-Pink Floyd member. Listen down below.
Luck and Strange, Gilmour’s first new album in nine years, is due out on September 6th.
