The Offer Stevie Nicks Prepared For Christine McVie To Rejoin Fleetwood Mac

Fleetwood Mac is a blend of rock, pop, and blues, and is known for its harmonies and guitar work. The band has gone through lots of lineup changes over the years, but the most successful lineup consisted of Lindsey Buckingham, Stevie Nicks, Christine McVie, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood. This era of Fleetwood Mac was something else, and even became one of the best-selling bands of all time.

But, sadly the band fell apart in the late 80s. Christine McVie also left the band in 1998. She revealed it was to spend more time in England and to focus on her solo career. There were also several other reasons, including the lengthy concerts, travel schedules, and late-night tours. But, she was on good terms with the rest of the band, especially Stevie Nicks.

The friendship between Stevie and Christine started in the early days. They often relied on each other during their time in Fleetwood Mac. According to McVie, she played with her because “It was critical that I got on with her because I’d never played with another girl.”

But I liked her instantly. She was funny and nice but also there was no competition. We were completely different on the stage to each other and we wrote differently too.”

Nicks has also commented about her friend. About McVie, she said, “We were cool onstage. But offstage everybody was pretty angry. Most nights Chris and I would just go for dinner on our own, downstairs in the hotel, with security at the door.”

Stevie was also going through a hard time with her relationship with Buckingham back in the day. The semi-naked picture which Stevie took for their album was also forced by Lindsey. Her own partner bullied her and Christine McVie was the only one who noticed. According to many sources like rock celebrities, she even slapped the guitarist after he threw his guitar at Stevie’s head while performing.

Now, to talk about the offer…

The band struggled a lot and when the band reunion was happening in 2013, she couldn’t think of Fleetwood Mac without Christine. Everyone had their heads up for the reunion except McVie herself. She didn’t want to participate in the reunion. That’s when Nicks did her best to make her perform. While talking about it with the Guardian in 2013, she disclosed her offer to McVie. She stated,

“We all did everything we could to try and talk her out of it. but you look in someone’s eyes, and you can tell they’re finished. It’s like when somebody breaks up with you and says, ‘We’re done.’ As Taylor Swift would say, ‘We are never ever getting back together, ever!’ That’s what Chris was saying.”

She also talked about money and added. “I’d beg, borrow and scrape together $5 million and give it to her in cash if she returned. That’s how much I miss her. I miss her like flowers need the rain.”

No one could leave their friends out in the cold. A year later Stevie reunited with her friend Christine. She appeared in some of the performances of Fleetwood Mac and announced her official return. It was a sight to behold and we can only guess if she accepted that big amount of money or not.
