Both the Beatles and Queen are absolutely legendary rock bands of all time and it is pretty clear that both bands respect each other. Their respect can be seen in their act itself which we will talk about further in the article however, first briefly talk about the co-lead vocalist of the Beatles, John Lennon.
We don’t even have to write who John Lennon is so let’s just cut to the chase and talk about his death. On the night of December 8, 1980, Lennon was shot dead in New York City. He was killed by one of his fans named Mark David Chapman, so why did he do it if he was a fan? well, apparently Chapman did not like the statement, “more popular than Jesus” John made about the Beatles.
Well, after John’s tragic untimely death many music artists gave a tribute including Queen. During their tour, Queen performed Lennon’s track Imagine as a tribute. You might think that this song was not written by Freddie Mercury and you’re right he didn’t. Freddie wrote a song for John, so what song is that? find out further in the article.
What song did Freddie Mercury write for John Lennon?
As many might know, Lennon was one of the greatest music influencers or inspirations to not only Freddie Mercury but many others. However, now let’s not go off track, well, the song Freddie wrote for John Lennon is “Life Is Real (Song for Lennon),” this track is from Queen’s tenth studio album and it was released back in 1982. Furthermore, a fun fact about this track is that the lyrics of the song were written before even music was composed.
While talking about their music both Freddie’s and John’s music has a vast difference however, John was in the music industry years before Freddie was, and obviously, Freddie was really inspired by the Beatles and Lennon. Many people even try to compare these two artists and when talking to Metalhead Zone Freddie explained that John is the greatest.
He said, “I would never like to [be] put in any kind of parallel with John Lennon at all. Because he was just the greatest. Sorry, that’s done.” He further added, “it’s not a matter of less talent or more talent. It’s just a certain people capable of doing certain things better than somebody else. I just feel that I’m not equipped enough to do certain things that John Lennon did. And I don’t think anybody should.”
It was a really wise reply by Freddie considering he is one of the most loved and greatest musicians himself. It is really sad and unfortunate that on November 24, 1991, Freddie also passed away because of a complication of AIDS. Two of the greatest musicians ever are no more with us but it is certain that many people love them and their songs.
These two have millions of fans and many are not born yet because they will not be forgotten, their legend will be passed down for many generations to come.
